I received my STR-DH810 yesterday and hooked it up per diagrams and tables shown in the manual. One of the feature I wanted to work was up-converting component output from my DVD player. I used the cable (Y,Pb,Pr) to go from back of DVD player to Component1 input connectors on 810 (I also tried Component 2 with same results). Connected HDMI output from receiver to TV. Turned receiver, TV and DVD player ON. In reciever’s “amp menu” selected “Component 1″ and assigned to DVD. I get messed up picture on the screen. Everything is in Greenish tint. Screen spilt in half vertically and displays DVD player’s ouptut vertically split (Will try to take a picture and post soon). Double checked Y,Pb,Pr cables. They are connected to corresponding pins on receiver correctly.
Next, tried using composite video out (only one yellow connector) on DVD player and connected it to receiver’s “Video1 in”. Then, chose Video1 on reciever’s remote. HDMI outputs decent video to TV. But, I want composite also to work (as I need the video1 for another component).
Also, there is an annoying delay in audio when switching between components (I tried HDMI to Video1 to TV/SAT). It takes several seconds for audio to start coming out. I kept on thinking something is muted and started to analyze what could be wrong and audio starts by itself. Once it starts, keeps going fine.

Albeit the STR-DH810 receiver is quite nice it wasn’t what I hoped for the money. Up and into the bedroom it is now and back went the older STR-DA777ES I hoped to replace.

The receiver arrived in excellent condition and was set up in about 15 minutes. There is an easy manual that helps sort through the steps but I didn’t need much of the technical information. Sound is excellent so overall I would rate it excellent.

I am a Sony fan, and I was looking around to upgrade our old Sony receiver on our surrond sound system. What I liked most about this one was sweet price! plus it has the ability to do “more” than I need it to right now, I can add other components and have easy HDMI hookup. My primary requirement was that it delivers better surround sound quality, especially coming from my PS3 blu ray. It does.
I usually don’t do the hooking everything up part, sometimes I just can’t get my mind around it. BUT I was able to do this easily. I just connected everything where it belonged, and bingo! it worked.
I know this reveiw isn’t very specific or helpful, I’m not a techno-wonk. I do love our home theatre and this is a sweet upgrade, 2 thumbs up to Sony.
